Mayor Jimmy Palmer swore in two members of the Calhoun City School Board at the Calhoun City Council Meeting on Monday, January 8, 2024. Eddie Reeves, Calhoun City School Board Post 4, and Becky Gilbert-George, Calhoun City School Board Post 5 were sworn in after winning their seats, unopposed, during the Municipal General Election. We appreciate the dedicated service of both Eddie Reeves and Becky Gilbert-George and are thankful for their many contributions to our schools and the Calhoun community.

Calhoun City Schools will operate on a 2-hour delay, today, January 9, 2024. We want to ensure the safety of our students, staff, and community members, and we encourage you to exercise caution when traveling. Please adjust your child's drop-off time by adding two hours to their regular schedule. Additionally, buses will run two hours behind their usual route times. We encourage parents, staff and our young drivers to exercise extreme caution on our roads. Again, students and staff should arrive two hours later than they would on a regular school day. Buses will operate on a two-hour delay.

UPDATE (1:50 pm): Calhoun Middle and High School are no longer in lockdown. The lockdown was initiated due to a threatening post on social media. The post was found to be dated from years prior; however, in an abundance of caution, local law enforcement searched areas of the facility and students were held in lockdown. Thank you to everyone for your support as we work to guarantee the safety of our children.

The campus of Calhoun Middle and High School is currently under a lockdown while police investigate a concerning social media posting. We will post as soon as the lockdown is lifted.

Calhoun City Schools ESS Department will host a parent training led by Parent to Parent (P2P) of Georgia on Friday, December 1st from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at the CCS Central Office. P2P supports Georgia families and individuals impacted by disabilities or special health care needs. This parent training will provide an overview of the supports provided by P2P and a discussion on the NOW/COMP Medicaid waivers. Join us this Friday for an informative session!

Seven FCCLA members from Calhoun High School and Co Advisors Caroline Atkins and Sarah Brown recently attended the FCCLA Fall Leadership Conference in Covington, GA. The CHS members honed their leadership skills during this two-day event and connected with fellow members. They participated in competitions to boost our chapter's Honor Roll points and Program of Work. Beyoncé Brito showcased her talent in cupcake decorating, while Adrianna Morgan, Jaxin Spivey, Lexie Delaney, and Elauria Mattox tackled the Statesman Exam. Additionally, our students engaged in inspiring leadership sessions and team-building activities to strengthen our chapter's unity.
